The worst crime we can commit is to teach differentiation without differentiating.

Differentiation is not about doing something different.  Differentiation is about communicating with people who are different.  If you don't have a schema, you are not differentiating.

Differentiating Instruction

Vision:

Just as the classroom is filled with diverse learners, so too are our faculties. If we expect our teachers to differentiate their instruction and provide diverse experiences for all learners, they must be provided with the necessary skills. Furthermore if we are to hold teachers accountable for differentiation, we must hold ourselves accountable. We must be willing to model differentiation in our staff development initiatives.

Outcomes:

In this one day (~6hr) training, all members will move from knowledge to comprehension to application, and be able to communicate the importance of a schema from which to differentiate instruction. This training provides an immersion in a differentiated experience and encourages participants to engage in a fierce conversation about teaching and learning. Participants realize that they choose activities that best suit their learning style. They are then brought face to face with the question: "Does this style best suit my students?" This training is appropriate for teachers of all ages, including those engaging in staff development. The worst crime we can commit is teaching differentiation without differentiating.
